Cookie Policy

This cookie policy explains how Betamo review portal (bet-amo.de) uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you visit our site. We've written this in plain terms so you know exactly what's happening when you browse our pages, what information reaches us, and how you can control it.

What cookies actually are

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device – phone, tablet or computer – when you visit. It helps the site recognise you on return visits and remember certain preferences. Cookies can't access other files on your device, and they can't run programs or carry viruses.

Some cookies disappear the moment you close your browser (session cookies). Others stay on your device for a set period or until you delete them manually (persistent cookies). We use both types, depending on what each one needs to do.

The cookies bet-amo.de sets

Our portal uses a small number of cookies to keep the site working and to understand how visitors use it. None of them track you across other websites, and we don't use them to build a profile of your browsing habits beyond this domain.

Category Purpose Duration
Necessary Keep the site functioning – session management, security, load balancing Session or up to 24 hours
Analytics Anonymous visitor counts, page views, time on site – helps us improve content Up to 2 years
Preference Remember choices you've made, such as cookie consent itself Up to 1 year

Necessary cookies are the ones the site cannot function without. They handle your session, remember that you've agreed to our terms, and keep traffic balanced across our servers. You can't turn these off without breaking the site, but they hold no personal information and expire quickly.

Analytics cookies let us see which pages are read most, where visitors arrive from, and how long they stay. The data is aggregated and anonymous – we see totals and trends, not individual journeys. These cookies require your consent, which the banner asks for when you first arrive.

Preference cookies remember settings you've chosen, most commonly the cookie consent itself. Without them, we'd ask for your agreement on every visit.

Third-party scripts and embedded content

Some pages on this portal embed content or tools from other providers – analytics platforms, mapping services, or widgets that display live information. When you load a page carrying one of those embeds, the third party may set its own cookies on your device, governed by that provider's own policy rather than ours.

We choose third-party services carefully and prefer those that offer privacy-respecting modes (anonymous tracking, IP masking, no cross-site profiling). Still, we don't control what those providers do with the data their cookies collect, so we recommend reading their policies directly if you want the full picture.

Common third parties you might encounter on bet-amo.de:

  • Analytics providers (Google Analytics in anonymised mode, or privacy-first alternatives such as Plausible)
  • Content delivery networks (CDNs) that speed up page loads by serving images and scripts from geographically distributed servers
  • Social sharing widgets, if we've included them on a page

Each third party has its own retention period and legal basis. Where we've embedded something, you'll usually find a link to that provider's privacy notice near the embedded element or in our main privacy policy.

Managing and declining cookies

You control cookies through your browser settings. Every major browser lets you block all cookies, delete existing ones, or allow only certain sites to set them. The downside is that blocking or deleting cookies can break parts of websites – forms might not remember what you've typed, preferences might reset, and some features simply won't load.

Good to know: declining analytics cookies on bet-amo.de won't stop the site working. Declining necessary cookies will – you'll see broken sessions and missing content. Where you draw the line is up to you.

How to manage cookies in the main browsers

Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. From there you can block third-party cookies, see which sites have stored data, and clear everything in one go.

Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. Firefox offers a "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed" option, which resets everything each session.

Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data. Safari blocks most third-party cookies by default and gives you a simple list of sites to remove individually.

Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies and site data. Edge shares Chrome's underlying engine, so the options look similar.

On mobile, the path is usually Settings → Safari (or Chrome/Firefox) → Privacy, then the equivalent controls. Blocking cookies on a phone affects only that browser – apps often have separate tracking settings under your device's main privacy menu.

What happens if you turn cookies off

Declining analytics and preference cookies costs you nothing on this portal – you'll still read everything we've written, and nothing will break. You'll simply see the cookie banner again next time, because we won't remember that you've already answered it.

Blocking necessary cookies is a different matter. Without them, the site can't maintain your session or verify that requests are legitimate. You might see error messages, forms that won't submit, or pages that reload in a loop. We can't fix that – necessary cookies are necessary for a reason, and modern websites depend on them the way a car depends on fuel.

If you're uncomfortable with any tracking at all, a better approach than blocking all cookies is to use privacy-focused tools such as uBlock Origin (which blocks third-party trackers while leaving functional cookies alone) or a VPN that strips tracking parameters from URLs. Both let you browse normally without the breakage that comes from a blanket cookie ban.

Changes and updates to this policy

We update this cookie policy when we add or remove third-party services, or when the law changes what we're required to tell you. The date at the bottom of this page shows when it was last revised. We don't notify you of minor wording changes, but anything that materially affects what data we collect or how we use it will be flagged on the homepage for a reasonable period.

If you have questions about how bet-amo.de uses cookies, or if something in this policy isn't clear, write to us at [email protected] and we'll get back to you within 48 hours.
